Bob and Brad D6 Pro Massage Gun Review

A portable black D6 Pro Massage Gun with a round head attachment on a blue background.

The D6 Pro massage gun is Bob & Brad’s latest and revolutionary massage gun. If you’re not familiar with the individuals, Bob Schrupp and Brad Heineck are the most famous physical therapists on the internet, and with the D6 Pro, they did something that they never did before. They have a line of products that include massage guns, but the D6 Pro is the first in its kind among those massage guns, mainly because it set itself up to compete against the higher end Therabidy’s Theragun Pro. But this article is about the D6 Pro.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX

The D6 Pro massage gun comes in a beautiful while box. It is definitely well packaged together. When you open the box, the first thing you see is the carry case. It is sturdy enough to carry the massager and its accessories. Inside the carry case are

  • The D6 Pro massager;

  • A pouch where the 7 massage heads are kept in;

  • A charger plug and the usb-c-to-usb-c charging cable. This cable allows you to charge the massager from any outlets with usb-c ports, including mobile devices.

  • A user manual and rehabilitation training manual are also include.

Handheld percussive massage device with interchangeable heads and a carrying case, known as the Bob and Brad D6 Pro Massage Gun.

HOW TO USE THE D6 PRO

The D6 Pro is easy to operate. First, you want to make sure that the device is turned off with the rotating arm preferably in the original position. Grab the massage head of your choice and insert its stem into the unit. Then, press firmly to secure in place. Long-press the power button to turn the device on.

To remove or change the massage head, grab the inserted one and firmly pull out.

The main two buttons on the D6 Pro are the power and mode buttons.

The power button has 2 functions: turning the device on or off with a long press (about 2 seconds) or increasing the speed.

The mode button reduces the speed of the device but also lets you select which mode you’d like to use the device in. To enter the mode selection, long-press the mode button for about 2 seconds and tap the mode button until you get to the mode that you want. To confirm a mode, press the power button.

There are 4 modes:

  • M1 or mode 1 is the standard manual mode.

  • M2 or mode 2 is the recovery mode. Here the device starts at the lowest speed and automatically increases on repeat.

  • The M3 mode of mode 3 is the muscle activation mode. In this mode, the device starts at the highest speed and automatically decreases and does so on repeat.

  • M4 or the 4th mode is triangle wave mode. The device goes up and down in speed and in a loop.

Each mode operates for 10 minutes at time.

To rotate the arm, press the arm rotating switch on the left side of the device. You have a selection of 6 positions to meet your needs.

CONS

There are minimal things that I’m not much of a fan of as far as the D6 Pro is concerned. But they’re minor enough and could be pros to someone else.

Advertise the resilient features of a cutting-edge, sports car-grade battery with double the industry standard longevity, designed to withstand high temperatures for superior performance, now complemented by the technology from D6 Pro

Let’s start with the fact that this device doesn’t have more smart features beside the OLED screen. There’s no mobile app where the massage routines are stored and can be followed from. But as I previously stated, this is minor because Bob and Brad made up for it by incorporating the routines in the user manual. But for tech savvy individuals, this is a down vote.

Another subjective down vote is the absence of a removable battery. I’m never a fan of this feature because it means that once the battery of your device is done, the entire device is also done, and it all needs to be replaced. Though, the battery in the D6 Pro is built to last very long and is advertised as being twice the industry standard, high-temperature resistant, and sport cars grade.

PROS

The D6 Pro comes with a well manufactured case that is hard enough to offer the best protection to your device and all the elements it comes with.

The D6 Pro also comes with 7 massage heads:

  • the standard ball, good for overall use.

  • The large ball, good for larger muscle groups such as your glutes, lasts, quads, hamstrings.

  • The air cushion ball, good for the sensitive areas. I personally love this one and it is my go-to for times when I want to gently release cramps stuck in my ankles for instance.

  • The flat head is good for trigger points and the lower back, and it’s designed to replicate the human thumb.

  • The bullet head is also good for trigger points and mainly designed for smaller muscles like those on your feet and hands.

  • The spade Head is good for the IT band and shoulder blades. I need to give a warning here. If you’re not used to massaging your IT band, then you should start with the air cushion ball because the IT band is a painful area to massage. Same with the gluteus medius, which is the top part of your butt.

  • The damping head is good for tender or bony areas, as well as overall use.

With the exception of the large ball, the head attachments are also made of silicone, thermoplastic and artificial leather. The large ball head is made of silicone, thermoplastic and plastic. None of them absorbs sweat, oils or lotions, and they’re easy to clean.

The rotating arm is an excellent feature as well because it allows you to reach more places on your body.

The 16mm amplitude allows the device to reach deeper into your muscles, while the 85lbs stall force allows you to press harder.

Now what are the amplitude and stall force? The amplitude is the distance that the head travels. The higher the amplitude and the further your massage gun will reach. And currently 16mm is the industry highest.

The stall force is the force it would take to make the device stop. And 85lbs is currently the industry highest as well, at least at the time of recording.

A handheld D6 Pro Massage Gun with a 16mm amplitude, marketed for its ability to reach 60% deeper into muscle tissue for more effective, longer-lasting relief and recovery.
Experience the ultimate in muscle relief with a whisper-quiet touch: the Bob and Brad D6 Pro Massage Gun delivers an impressive 85 pounds of stall force for deep tissue therapy while being 20%

The ergonomic shape and design of the D6 Pro allows you to hold the device in various angles and positions, which lets you reach any part of your body even on your own.

The D6 Pro is also a quiet massager for its size. You can’t use it in an office setting without it grabbing the attention of others, but it’s quieter than some massage guns on the higher end.

A rehabilitation training booklet is also included. The booklet provides education on ways to heal your body with massage guns, stretch balls, and other tools, as well as more ways to use a massage gun on different muscle. The booklet is definitely a gem.

WHY YOU NEED A MASSAGE GUN

As a Corrective Exercise Specialist, I swear by massage guns.  They help you recover faster and also manage muscle pains that you may have. They increase your range of motion, which helps you perform better during your workouts.  They’re less painful than foam rollers and do help you fix some muscle imbalances so you can live with lesser pains in your body.

Last but not least, having a good massage gun is like having your personal on-demand massage therapist. I for instance lead a very busy lifestyle, which makes it extremely difficult to schedule a massage with a certified therapist at my conveniences. So, I rely on my massage guns a lot whether at home or on-the-go.
