Theragun Mini: The Best Mini Massage Gun?

Black theragun massage device against a white background.

If you are interested in getting the Theragun Mini, then you have come to the right place to read about it before you commit to a purchase.

WHAT IS IN THE BOX

In box is the Theragun Mini itself, and it comes in a pouch. It does come with the standard ball attachment. In the box are also a few cards: one has the story of the company and the founder; one introduces the Theragun app; one is a sticker with Theragun written on it. There is also the manual card with the explanation of how things work, and warnings. Finally, the box includes the charger, very important to have this baby running.

THE SPECS

The Theragun Mini weighs 1.43 pounds (650 grams). It has an amplitude of 12 millimeters. The amplitude is the distance that this head travels in and out. It takes about 80 minutes to charge the Mini. At least that is what it is advertised as, and the battery life is 150 minutes. This Theragun Mini itself has three speeds.

HOW IT WORKS

There is only one button on the Theragun Mini, and this is the power on/off button. Press it for about a second, and it starts to work. Press the button again for level two, and again for level three. To turn it off, you press this button for about 2 seconds.

THE PROS

  • What is really good about this massage gun itself is, first of all, its the size. It is small and compact, and that means you can transport it easily. You can put it in a backpack, in a suitcase and some type of purse, especially on the larger size. So, it’s really easy to take with you anywhere you go pretty much.
  • It is also ergonomic, and holding it with the Theragun name facing outside, makes it easier to have your index finger right above the button so that you would press it easily and it’d just start going, or stop when you’d want it to. Holding the Mini that way also makes it feel natural to the hand.
  • The Theragun Mini was released with other massage guns, and they are all fourth generation that all come with the QuietForce Technology™. This makes those fourth generation Theraguns quieter than the older models.

THE CONS

  • The first con is that the battery is not removable, which means that when your battery is done for, that’s it. You cannot replace it. Instead, you will need a brand-new massage gun.
  • Also, the stall force for this massage gun, which is the force that you need to apply before the machine stops, is at 20 pounds. This is not powerful enough for deeper message. Yes, it would give you some type of massage and would still feel good. But if you are an athlete for instance, and want to go deeper in your massage, this Theragun would not be the perfect fit for you.
  • The other con is that the Theragun Mini does not connect to the Therabody application as it does not have Bluetooth® connectivity. Therabody, when they released those fourth generation Theraguns, they also released the Therabody app. So, one good thing with the Therabody app is the possibility to connect your device to the app. But as previously stated, the Theragun Mini does not have that option. However, you still can use the app as it has helpful massage routines. So the app itself is not a con. The con here is the inability of the Theragun to connect to the Therabody app.
  • Another issue that I will add to this list is that the motor could be quieter. Yes, when we activate this massage gun, it is definitely quieter than older models, but it’s still to my taste, a little too loud, but I can only imagine that for models after this generation, they probably will be a little quieter. This is something that we will have to see.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST AND WHERE TO BUY

The price tag on the Theragun Mini is $199, which makes it the cheapest Theragun that you would possibly own, at least to date.

You can buy the Mini in a few places including Amazon, but the Therabody store is the only place where you will have the option to select the ProCare extended warranty.

The Theragun Mini comes with a one-year limited warranty, but the ProCare extended warranty gives you benefits such as free repairs or replacement during your one-year limited warranty. And that with no questions asked. Also, you get other benefits, like 30% off all new massage guns that you would want to purchase, including upgrades. You would also get a 35% of the repairs after the limited warranty has run out. Last but not least, with the ProCare extended warranty, you will get 10% of all head attachment. Another thing that I forgot to mention with the Theragun Mini is that yes, it does come with the standard attachment, but it is also compatible with the other attachments for all the fourth generation Theraguns.

MY THOUGHTS

I personally don’t think that the Theragun Mini is quiet enough for closed spaces. Yes, it is indeed quieter than older models, but I think that it could be quieter. In places like gyms, it is definitely inaudible. But for spaces like the office, you will still attract attention from other people in my opinion.
I do like the fact that it is more compact and that you can definitely take it places. You can take it with you anywhere without having to worry about the space that it would take. You would just put it in its pouch, and it’d be ready to go. I will add that with a stall force of 20 pounds, it is not powerful enough for deeper message. However, for athletes or those who exercise more often, if you need some treatment, this would be a quick fix on the go. This would be perfect for that. And because of this, I personally don’t believe that the Theragun Mini should be owned by its own. I think it is more of a supplement to another massage gun that you own, one of its larger siblings like the Theragun PRO, for instance. And I personally believe that the Theragun Mini is definitely a great entry level massage gun.
