We all have been at some point or another in situations where we wished we had readily available meals for us to eat right away. For instance, we came home late from an already long day, thought about something that would support our health better just to end up calling for delivery, a pizza maybe, and have it with some soda on the sofa. Or maybe you even stopped by one of those fast food restaurants on your way home. Meal prepping could have prevented these scenarios from happening.
There are so many benefits to meal prepping and below are 5 reasons why you should do it.
1. Portion control
Packing your meals in containers helps you stick to the amount of food available to you in those boxes. This is also one way to learn self-control, willpower, and discipline. And if you are trying to lose weight, gain muscles, or any other fitness goals that you may have, with meal prepping, you have a better estimation of how much you are eating to support those goals. With portion control, you also can avoid hidden calories that would otherwise sneak up on you and mess your entire fitness goals.
2. Save money
By planning your meals ahead of time, you will know what you need to buy when you go grocery shopping. Plus, with already-available-meals to you, you would not have to spend on ordering and eating out.
3. Save time
With meals already made and available to you during the week, you won’t have to spend time guessing what to eat and/or cook at a particular time of the day; you also would have more time to do something else. Spending more time with the children or your significant other, or just enjoying more time for yourself to do more things that you would enjoy and would not otherwise be doing had you have to cook that evening. All you would have to do when hungry would be to just heat up your prepped meals. Also, you would save more time at the grocery store because you would already know what you need to pick up ahead of time, spending lesser time in the store.
4. No wasting food
Because you have bought all the ingredients that you need for the week ahead, you will use them all to prep all the meals that you will need for that week and eat it all. This would reduce your chances to throw away food before you had any chance to eat it.
5. Inspire others
The people around you seeing you leading a healthier lifestyle would be inspired to do the same for themselves. They might not do exactly all that you do, but they would be prompted to tweak something in their lifestyles, even if it is a small step. Hey, every step count, and the baby ones lead to the big ones!
